SUMMARY:Community Memorial Service for Kathleen Dale Mirtoni
DESCRIPTION:Community Memorial Service will be held 1/24/26\, 1-3pm \nKathleen Dale Mirtoni\, an educator and longtime drama teacher at Petaluma Junior High School who founded the campus theater program and touched the lives of thousands of students over more than three decades\, passed away on Oct. 9\, 2025\, at the age of 79. \nTo honor her life and work\, Polly Klaas Community Theater has launched the Kathleen Dale Mirtoni Memorial Children’s Fund in her honor. All donations will be used to fund children’s theatrical productions\, workshops\, and summer camps at Polly Klaas Community Theater. \nMirtoni began teaching at PJHS in the early 1990s and quickly became known for establishing the school’s Drama Club as a formal extracurricular program. What began as a small student activity grew under her leadership into a thriving theatrical community that staged full productions—including classics such as Little Women—at the Polly Klaas Community Theater and other community venues. \nHer classroom and rehearsal spaces became safe havens for students seeking expression\, confidence\, and connection. Known for her infectious enthusiasm\, sharp wit\, and trademark “Big Italian Hugs\,” Mirtoni had an extraordinary ability to see potential where others might not—and to nurture it with warmth\, humor\, and high expectations. She also was a fiercely loving safe harbor for the student community during the tragedy of Polly Klaas’s abduction by championing a continued production of King Arthur. Polly and her friends were a part of the production\, and she kept close watch and care over her students at that time and beyond. Polly Klaas Community Theater cherishes all Mirtoni did for our community and children\, and the Children’s Fund will continue her legacy. \nDONATE TO THE MEMORIAL FUND HERE >>

SUMMARY:Benefit Concert with New Orleans Icons Tom McDermott and Aurora Nealand
DESCRIPTION:A  concert to benefit Petaluma Historic Advocates and the Polly Klaas Foundation!  \nTom McDermott was born in St Louis in 1957. After a master’s degree in music he moved to New Orleans in 1984. With his background in ragtime and traditional jazz he was soon one of the busiest players in town.

He’s appeared with the Dukes of Dixieland at Carnegie Hall and played with Pete Fountain\, Irma Thomas and Gatemouth Brown. His 17 CDs have been reviewed in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. He looks forward to playing in California for the first time in a while! \nAurora Nealand embarked on a cross country bicycle trip\, during which she interviewed rural Americans and compiled their stories into a musical piece titled “American Dreams”. The trip concluded in New Orleans\, where she began playing traditional jazz\, much of which she had grown up listening to in California. Nealand formed The Royal Roses in 2011 for a tribute concert to Sidney Bechet at Preservation Hall in New Orleans. Along with the Royal Roses\, Nealand also performs as a member of the rockabilly  band Rory Danger and the Danger Dangers and solo under the name Monocle. In 2019\, Nealand\, under the name “Monocle”\, brought her project “KindHumanKind” to the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center receiving a positive review from OffBeat magazine. She frequently performs in a duo with New Orleans pianist and singer Tom McDermott. As of 2023\,
her latest project is Aurora Nealand and the Reed Minders.
Nealand was voted “Best Female Performer” by the 2016
 Gambit.
awards\, and her band was named “Best Traditional Jazz Band” in the 2015 and 2017 Big Easy Awards.

She was named one of
Downbeat Magazine's “Rising Stars” on both soprano saxophone and clarinet in 2017\, 2018\, 2020. \nTom and Aurora can be found performing with many unique New Orleans collaborations in hallowed historic venues such as The Spotted Cat\, Three Muses\, Snug Harbor\, and Buffa’s Back Room – now to include the historic Polly Klaas Community Theater making Petaluma the New Orleans of the West! \nSaturday Dec 2oth in Petaluma at the historic Polly Klaas Community Theater\, supporting the Polly Klaas Foundation and the Petaluma Historic Advocates. SUMMARY:The M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause
DESCRIPTION:FILM SCREENING\n“The [M] Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause\,” a feature-length documentary film\, centers on the lived experiences of women across the U.S. Cameras follow women into their doctors’ offices\, at work\, and in their homes to expose the challenges they face—including racial biases\, gender-ignorant care\, inequitable structures and systems\, and barriers due to the lack of basic healthcare research. The women featured here open up about their experiences and share their stories of enduring debilitating symptoms while being ignored\, ridiculed and/or shamed—and left untreated. \nNow there’s a movement to fix the broken system\, change the culture and transform our future. “The [M] Factor” turns the spotlight on the progress being made. With input from emboldened physicians\, healthcare advocates and leaders in the menopause movement\, the film focuses on what is being done to address this public health crisis and offers solutions that can be replicated in medical communities and workplaces across the country. \n“The [M] Factor” gives women\, their physicians and their advocates a voice and a chance to be seen\, heard and respected.  \nTICKETS HERE>>
